Background of the Study
Democratic participation is a cornerstone of governance, enabling citizens to actively engage in decision-making processes and hold leaders accountable. Community media, as a grassroots communication tool, plays a vital role in fostering democratic participation by providing a platform for inclusive dialogue, civic education, and information dissemination. In Jos South Local Government Area (LGA), Plateau State, community media, including radio stations, local newspapers, and social media groups, serve as critical channels for amplifying citizens' voices, particularly in underserved communities. Research shows that community media enhances civic engagement, empowers marginalized groups, and bridges the gap between citizens and government (Okonkwo & Musa, 2024). This study investigates the impact of community media on democratic participation in Jos South LGA, examining its effectiveness, challenges, and contributions to strengthening democracy at the local level.
